That stray cat I named Petey is actually Petra. The reason she was so skinny and demanding now seems obvious: she had already given birth to her kittens! There are two, and they are old enough to be ready to explore. She's been hiding them under my deck. I think they are probably about 5 weeks old ... very cute. One is visible in this photo: the other one is hiding behind Petra. Now what am I going to do with these THREE additional cats?
Oh my goodness... too cute. We had stray mama several years ago. We trapped her and got her spayed, and then she just lived out her days on the property... she never really came around to people too much. We did handle the kittens and ended up keeping two and giving the others away.
ReplyDeleteI think the humane society spays free for strays?? Something to look into. Sooooo, cute!!
I did have Petey spayed. One of her kittens has found a home now, and the other is still here. Petey wasn't fazed by the spaying: she is still nursing the one kitten, quite happily. There is a prospective adopter for the kitten ... and then I expect Petey will remain here with us. She is not friendly to the cats that I raised from kittens (my "on purpose" cat pets) but after her kittens are no longer under her protection, I expect they'll get along better.
